Family holiday activities are perfect opportunities to spend quality time with your loved ones. And since indoor capacity has increased, you’ll probably be seeing family you haven’t in a while. Don’t know what to do with that long-lost cousin you haven’t seen all year? Try out some of these holiday activities for family fun. They’ll surely help break the ice!
This will require a little planning before your shindig. Have everyone bring a wrapped gift to the party. The catch? These gifts should be cheap and a little silly. I once got a car mirror that had broken off my friend’s car! Other ideas are colouring books, silly crafts, games and more. Get creative!

Ugly Sweater Competition
This one also requires some planning. Wear your favourite ugly sweater to the party. At some point, everyone votes for their favourite (or the ugliest) sweater. Maybe the winner gets a new sweater from last year’s champion!
Plastic Wrap Ball
Yes, you read that correctly. You will need a large roll of plastic wrap (such as Saran Wrap). To set up, gather candy, gift cards or other small prizes. Start with one item and wrap it in plastic wrap. Keep wrapping that item, slowly adding other gifts as you layer. The end product should be a large ball of plastic wrap with small gifts and prizes under each layer. To play, gather the participants in a circle.
Using a pair of dice, determine the “magic number” to roll. Going around the circle, each player unwraps the outermost layer of plastic wrap (winning any prizes that fall out) until the person in front of them rolls the “magic number” with the dice. Move the ball (and dice) around the circle until the ball is gone and every prize has been unwrapped.
Candy Cane Pick Up
Scatter candy canes all over the table. Using only your mouth and a candy cane, you must pick up all the candy canes and move them into a bowl. The first one to pick up all of their candy canes wins!
Bradford Christmas Farmers Market
Local growers welcome the festive season by transforming into Christmas markets. Bradfords farmers’ market will offer its usual selection of fresh produce and tasty treats, along with Christmas decor items. Keep your eye on Bradford Farmers Market socials and their website here, so you don’t miss out!
Using green streamers, bows and other decorations, choose one member of your team to be decorated as a Christmas tree. Get creative and have fun! May the best tree win. Are you looking for some other ideas? Try Elf on the Shelf or “minute to win it” games. Mad Libs, bingo and trivia are other terrific options! When in doubt, bake and decorate some cookies.
